Yesterday I ate:
special K red berries
like 5 different granola bars
a turkey sandwich
half an apple
and a hand full of carrots

I didn't get any exercise and I drank so much diet coke that I didn't sleep last night.

However, my scale did move in the right (or should I say left) direction this morning! yea!

1/3 C Malt-O-Meal cereal with brown sugar

good news or bad?

Well, I saw the doctor this week, as I mentioned before.  The results are in.  I have hypothyroidism.  I'm really glad that they were able to diagnose it.  I'm also quite proud of myself for paying attention to my body and noticing that something was amiss, and accurately diagnosing myself on Web MD.
What is it?  My thyroid isn't producing enough hormone.
What can they do? Give me medication which should bring my levels back to normal, and reduce my symptoms including the weight gain.
What's the good news?  I've been diagnosed and I'll receive treatment.  The treatment should also aid in my metabolism and therefore my diabetes too.
What's the bad news?  I'll have to take another prescription medicine.  Most likely for the rest of my life.
What's interesting about it?  People who have one endocrine disorder are more prone to having another.  I recently learned this on a podcast for mothers.  There was a featured story on a young girl with Type 1 diabetes (the kind which I have) who was diagnosed because she'd already had another endocrine disorder; Graves Disease.

I'm grateful I was able to find help and hopeful that I'll start feeling more normal soon.   The past two weeks have been particularly poor.  Today I've felt so tired and lethargic.  I'm glad it's more than just adjusting to staying at home.

swimming

I could write an entire post dedicated to my 30 minute experience at the pool this morning.  I think I might just dump my thoughts here too because no one else wants to hear me ramble on.
I was so pumped that after 8 weeks of the pool being closed it was finally open again.  It is just the best form of exercise for me and the time, while brutal- at least for me, works out the best.
They had closed for resurfacing and I can't believe what they put on that pool.  Mark my words this is going to be a huge mistake.  They put in some kind of plastic lining on the pool and there are already air bubbles everywhere.  The lane lines and marks on the wall are taped over the top of the lining and you can tell that those things are going to peel right off.  I hope I'm wrong but I'm afraid they're going to have major problems with this crap.
The dumb life guard who works at 5:30 am decided he had to sweep one of the two available lanes and so I had to go over to the lane where there were no lane lines.  I wonder if you know what those lines are for anyway?  Besides holding you in your lane, or marking where you are swimming, they happen to absorb a great deal of waves or wake created by other swimmers.  I was there about 15 minutes when some guy 100 pounds heavier than me shows up and swims in the lane over (no lane lines).  He is creating so much wake that I'm all over the place and feeling super dragged down from him.  Arg!  That is the point of the lane line.  I was the first one there today and I would have really liked to have swum in the first lane.
If that lifeguard does that tomorrow, I'm going to ask him to move!
I didn't feel great in the water which wasn't really surprising because I haven't swum laps for quite some time.  I hope I'll start getting back to where I was in a week or two.
I did 30 minutes and swam about 800 yards.  Before the pool closed I was up to about 40 minutes and 1200 yards, so I've got some improving to do.  Sadly, I can only afford 40 minutes before my husband has to leave but I plan on getting back to where I was before.
I'm just really glad the pool is back open again.

bad week

Well, what can I say?  I've been having a really rough time with my diabetes lately.  Things are getting back to normal, I hope!  I've had some other health issues lately too so I went to the doc today.  He is running some tests and I should find out the results by Thursday.  I hope that they are conclusive tests and that I don't have to have any further blood drawn.  No body likes that.  Today I had two different blood samples taken and was given my flu shot.  I feel as though I've been sufficiently poked and prodded.
I'm planning on hitting the pool tomorrow morning.  It has been closed since the middle of August so that is several weeks without regular exercise.  I'm excited and a little nervous.  These other health problems have left me feeling very tired and even lethargic.  I'm hopeful that I'll be able to wake up and stay awake tomorrow.
Excited to exercise.  Also looking forward to figuring out these health issues.  And maybe once all that is said and done I can start losing some weight.
How are the rest of you doing?
I hardly ate anything today, I was busy, and didn't have much of an appetite.
